Press Reviews

Globe & Herald - "Idyllic Hideaway!"
We are lodged in a cottage that’s nothing short of idyllic. Pre programmed music from concealed speakers is ours at the touch of a button. An ultra modern kitchen contains top of the line appliances and gadgets. There’s a log-burning fireplace in the lounge giving a romantic glow. Our bathroom would do any five star hotel proud for its thick fluffy towels and bathrobes, toiletries galore and costly fittings and fixtures.

Harpers & Queen - "Heaven for Two"
The perfect nest in which to hibernate. Surrounded by sheep filled meadows and a twenty-acre arboretum, it is seductively situated for romantic evening strolls. The property is a harmonious blend of antiques modern art and old-fashioned cosiness and rustic charm.

Escape Routes - "Hillside Hideaway"
Set in rolling Border country it is intimate and elegant, fabulous furniture blends discreetly with modern fabrics. Be sure to ask for the wonderful Dick Turpin Cottage. There’s an impressive Linn remote-controlled audio system so you definitely won’t need to leave the room!

The Advertiser Shires Guide
Set like a jewel in wonderful country. Do you love walking around our beautiful British countryside but hate having to share it with hordes of other tourists? Then take a break in south Shropshire where you will have miles of rolling green hills to yourself. Its one of the only three areas in England judges to be totally peaceful and quiet. The Dick Turpin Cottage the deluxe place to stay.

British Heritage
This spacious cottage is an exquisite blend of antiques and modern furnishings with idiosyncratic touches of sheer magic and well, wry imagination like the eye-opening anatomically correct pig shown leaping into a pond in the bathroom. Music from concealed speakers, log burning stove, antique bergeres covered in silk, all add up to a romantic break for two, though the farmhouse table sits six, so if you want to entertain friends and relatives you can.

Best Magazine - "Romantic Retreat"
Dick Turpin Cottage stands high above Clun village in beautiful countryside despite its traditional log fire and water supplied from its own well, the cottage is full of the latest gadgets. There’s an ultra modern kitchen complete with welcome hamper and a variety of cookbooks for foodies. There’s also s built in hi-fi system that plays throughout the cottag3 so you can enjoy your favourite love songs in every room! The huge bedroom is very comfortable, and the large bath is ideal for a long soak. Soft dressing gowns are supplied. Clun village is idyllic with a pretty river and shops for you stock up on essentials. Once in the beautiful cottage, you’ll never want to leave.

Home Magazine - "Romantic Getaway - Perfect for Valentine’s Day!"
A Country Bolthole where only bird song breaks the silence.
Dick Turpin Cottage near Ludlow in Shropshire. Tastefully decorated and furnished with antiques, wood-burning stove, giant bed, double ended bath and double shower, the cottage is perfect for couples and nestles in 20 acres of private woodlands in the grounds of Cockford Hall.

The Times
Hay Festival - Book in as early as you can as local beds fill up fast. Drive north to Cockford Hall and The Dick Turpin Cottage with more than a touch of class.

The Daily Telegraph
- "Visit the hidden corner of Shropshire - Adventures over the hills"
As your own HQ its hard to beat Cockford Hall and its self catering cottage THE DICK TURPIN. This is one for the grown-ups who like bedtime reading in real comfort after a day in the open. It’s no distance to the sheep rustlers’ hideout on Offa’s Dyke or the Buffalo Inn for a meal. And you might just be lucky enough, like the Lone Piners, to see "the ruins of the great keep glistening in the moonlight" while and "owl drifted silently over their heads and sounded his mournful cry"..

The Sunday Times - Self Catering goes five star
Romantic Interludes
Expect an extravagant and eccentric enterprise - The Dick Turpin Cottage is precisely that. The furniture is by the likes of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and David Hicks. The French windows from the living room lead up to a bench with wonderful views over the Shropshire Hills. Further back are woodlands with trails and a log cabin for the guest’s use. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped but Michelin starred restaurants are not far away so who wants to cook?

A stylish country retreat with no stinting on quality, vast rooms, sheets are fine cotton and there’s an eclectic choice of artwork. The views are magnificent.. Simply irresistible!

Business Traveller
".. 180-degree views across the velvety green of the Clun Valley. I marvel at the solitude not hugely changed since A.E.Housman was writing in the 1890’s. I can understand how the countryside in this so-called 'Heart of England' soaks into the soul."

The Good Cottage Guide
"We had heard this was something special but it turned out to be very special indeed! To put it another way: unforgettable. From the private drive that winds uphill we were delighted to see horses and a newborn foal. We could see a handsome house, to the side of this a stone building has been converted to a holiday home that is pure delight. Among many good things to detail in full: pictures and prints that would grace and art gallery, well chosen rugs, a state of the art hi- fi, an exquisite wittily designed bathroom. There are splendid walks from the doorstep (within the properties 20 acres you might spot badgers, foxes, buzzards, owls or red kites) with dramatic Offa’s Dyke about a mile away and a charmingly arranged picnic table on high ground from which there are spectacular westerly views."

Special Places to Stay
Come and discover the sophisticated comfort and elegance - an unstinting welcome and unequalled value. Pure cotton sheets and amazing electronics to delight musicians and baffle the over-5os. A huge, luxury cottage, a real retreat. The most perfect setting, in the hillside behind paths have been created with seating areas and a cabin from which to take in the superb views.
